Mixing old and new

Creating a vignette atop my chippy cupboard with my newest finds
The candle holder and vintage mother/child print were happy additions to my decor.
I'll show you the detail later....
I decided to add this antique doorknob atop an old glass cloche. I found the idea from
a decorating magazine.  I'm trying to find just the right tresor to put underneath.
I love the contrasts of white, dark beige, glass, rust, tin.  To me, there's something so
comforting in the old mixed with the new. The worn with the elegant...
Here's  close-up detail of this gorgeous candle holder. Very stately and tall...and heavy too. Not sure if it's metal or actually iron.  I just love the base.

The top of the holder is almost as lovely as the bottom

Oh, happy day. This perfectly drippy candle came with it....sigh!

It's impossible to appreciate the beauty of this print in a picture. Just doesn't do it justice.
I couldn't part with it to the shop. This is a keeper...at least for awhile anyway. :)

I guess when I take my next pics, I should hide the hanging wire behind the vintage frames (oops) .... Just pretend for now that it's not there, ok?  *wink
Hope you all have a magical day.  I'm linking up with the following parties this week:

One and Done!

A moss bodice, flanked by burlap roses and faux pearls, cinched off at the waist with a gauze bow
"imagine" wording crafted of iron with a fleur de lis stenciled below.
And let's not forget her beautiful burlap skirt~
Here she is in all her glory, safely and forever attached to an antique door.

I wish  I could say I created this, but I'd not be truthful.
I found her in my treasure travels.

I put her in the shop on Sunday, and she was gone on Monday.
One day..that's it!  One and done!  I'm so glad I thought to take pictures of her before I brought it in.

I can imagine her in a garden shed, a porch, patio or a girls room. Wherever she lands, I'm sure she went to a good home.

Rainy Day Musings

Today is a rainy day in New England...
the kind that's cold and raw...

once you're wet... you feel it in your bones kind of rain..

I know...since I've already been drenched today...raincoat and all...
but it was fun...

treasure~ hunting for the shop (and myself) but more on that in a later post.

All I want to do now is a snuggle in with a good book
a steaming cup of coffee
and read until I nap...
(I guess that's the reward of rising at 6:00 am on a Saturday morn)
Maybe a blanket will chase away the chill in my bones...

Rainy days are perfect for deep thought and reflection...
for taking stock of your life... to count your blessings
...face your losses
and be grateful for the life you've lived

to ask the questions:
...Where am I headed?
...Where have I been?
...What can I change.... what can I not?

and quiet yourself to hear....
to wait upon God,
as He speaks to your heart...
and tends to your soul.

To know that no matter where you are in life...
in whatever state you find yourself,
your Father in Heaven will always be drawing you and wooing
you unto Himself...
He will never let you go...all you need to do is ask...

Weekend Jaunt

Over the long weekend, I was able to unearth some lovely treasures.  Yes, I found this vintage case with the sheet music already applied.  Can you believe it??  And this precious silk hat has the most gorgeous flowers, lace and tulle you can imagine.

A vintage wicker basket with little pom-poms to dress it up...  I fell in love with it at first glance!

I'm never one to pass up anything with farmhouse appeal.  This little box with dividers was only made more enticing to me laden with stencils.

I've arranged my tresors in a little grouping for you to see. Oh...and I also grabbed that white divider box...great for utensils, etc.  All of these finds have landed in my space at the shop.

I'm always torn about what to keep and what to sell.  It makes good sense to buy only what I like....then if it doesn't sell...well...you know where I'm going with this....

Lastly, although I've posted similar pics of my living room before, I just loved the light and view yesterday from where I was in the sitting room, so I wanted to share this pic...

I love the shabby, french, and farmhouse look, but for this Spring and Summer, I went for more of a cottage feel for this room.  It makes me feel happy when I see the light and bright colors.

I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Little weekend finds

Found just a few small tresors on my "hunt" this weekend past...
This white washed cubby for one, along with the goodies inside:

a vintage westclox clock
2 antique little jars...
a Dundee Orange Marmalade jar w/cover (not antique, but sweet just the same)
a rusty metal garden candle lantern.  The cloche style glass is very heavy.

Here's a close up of the jars. The one on the left is a genuine antique marmalade jar. The imprint on the bottom states Not Genuine Unless Bearing WMP Hartley's Label  MF

a transfer ware cup (is this an egg cup?)
If so...that's sure one big chicken that lays THAT egg...
Perhaps a dessert cup ~ any ideas?

Nothing says farmhouse kitchen like an old rusty scale. (Shabby green and white)

A vintage candy tin from England

And of course, scoring this bling made me very happy.  The rhinestone bracelet at the top of the pitcher is sweet, but I wish you could see the way the blue and clear rhinestones sparkled on that choker. Lasted not even two days in the shop.

Small tresors, but enough to make the hunt fun!
What finds have you brought home this week?

Come and Sit a Spell

On this rainy day in New England, I thought it good to share a post of my farmer's porch.  I  finally set it up just last week on my day off.
Porches are outdoor spaces that invite so many wonderful moments...

a spot to read...

to think and relax...
to hope...

 to dream....

a special place to just be quiet before the Lord and pray...

napping is also a wonderful pastime on an old front porch

or even to catch up with a neighbor passing by on an evening walk
I can tell you with a full heart that I have done all of the above on this old porch
...and much more

...I have played tea party games with my granddaughters

...watched my sons come home from war to cut their yellow ribbons off the front porch posts

...taken prom pictures

...wedding pictures

...and had deep conversations with wonderful friends

I hope if you have a porch, a deck, or even just a small little patch of green somewhere, you'll find a way to make it your own....a place where dreams are made.
